Adulterated Faith(Sunday School Lesson)

Adulterated Faith

Explain how in a meat market contamination between different types of meat is against health code because each meat requires different cooking directions.

Establish the symbolism between slavery to Egypt and slavery to sin. Romans 6:17-18

1.The Problems with the Golden Calf.
a)The Israelites were doing what they were comfortable and familiar doing, instead of trusting in their new relationship with God. “Renewing your mind...” - Romans 12:2, “Friendship with the world...” James 4:4

b)The Israelites were trying to amend God's required worship of Him and add worshiping idol gods. “Serve two masters...” Matthew 6:24 “House divided...” Mark 3:25 “Fresh Water/Salt Water Spring...” James 3:9-12 “Circumcised to be saved...” Acts 15:1-2,5-11

c)Aaron wasn't ministering to the people by telling them what he heard from God(through Moses) but he was simply giving the people what they wanted. Warn the class against the dangers of a church pressuring the Pastor to cater the message to “what they are familiar with and accustomed to.”

2. Show how Moses represents foreshadowing of Christ interceding for us. Romans 8:34
a)Christ's life being threatened as a babe
b)Christ becoming a common man to do God's will
c)Christ bring the message of the Gospel(abolish of the slavery of sin) being rejected.
d)Christ being our intermediary making peace between man and God.

Scriptures

Mark 3:25 - 25If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Acts 15:1-2,5-11
The Council at Jerusalem
1Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: "Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved." 2This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.

5Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses."
6The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? 11No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

Romans 6:17-18 - 17But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

Romans 8:34 - 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Romans 12:2 - 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

James 3:9-12 - 9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

James 4:4 - 4You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
